Unlike permanent lighting, temporary lighting is installed on a job site for a limited amount of time. To ensure maximum illumination while working, plastic lamp guards are used to protect the lights. Heavy duty guards may be used to secure individual lights, or in areas where large amounts of light is necessary, temporary light stringers are helpful. To secure lamps properly into the plastic lamp guards, sockets are required. Choose a socket style that adequately fits the base of your light bulb.

Pin-type sockets are typically used for medium base light bulbs around 200 watts or less. Pin-type sockets may come equipped with or without hooks. The hooks allow for worry free wire connection to metal pins. Pigtail sockets may also come with or without hooks. These sockets connect to bulbs using leads that are linked to an electrical connection to establish temporary illumination.
